Melissa Marr grew up believing in faeries, ghosts, and various other creatures. After teaching college literature for a decade, she applied her fascination with folklore to writing.
Her debut novel, Wicked Lovely, garnered various accolades, including a starred review in Publishers Weekly, the Recommended Reading list from Locus, Amazon Best Book of 2007 for Teens, TAYSHAS reading list, NY Public Library Best Books for the Teen Age, Borders Original Voices, and the Romance Writers of America’s RITA award for best Young Adult novel. The second book, Ink Exchange, received starred reviews from both Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal, recommended reading from Locus. The third book in the five book series (Fragile Eternity) was published in mid-2009. All three of the books were selected, in their respective years, as BookSense/IndieBound Summer Picks. To date, the Wicked Lovely series has sold into seventeen languages; the books have also appeared on various bestseller lists, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, LA Times, and Spiegel (German) lists. In 2009, the first volume in a three-volume manga series, Wicked Lovely: Desert Tales, released.
The film rights were recently acquired by Universal Pictures with producers Wild West Picture Show and screenwriter Caroline Thompson (who wrote Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, City of Ember, and The Secret Garden, among others).
Currently, Marr lives in the Washington, D.C., area, writes full-time, and still believes in faeries and ghosts.
